Frequently asked questions

Can I convert images to GIF?

Not at the moment. Browsers cannot export GIF from a canvas, so GIF output is on the roadmap. You can convert from GIF: the first frame is saved in the format you choose.

Why is the AVIF option greyed out?

Creating AVIF files depends on your browser’s built-in image encoder. When the browser cannot encode AVIF, the option is disabled rather than silently producing a different format. Try another current browser or use WebP.

What happens to transparency when converting PNG to JPG?

JPG does not support transparency, so transparent pixels are filled with white. Choose PNG or WebP as the target to keep the transparent background.

Which format should I use on a website?

Use WebP or AVIF for photos to keep files small, PNG for screenshots, logos and graphics that need sharp edges or transparency, and JPG when you need maximum compatibility with older software.
